Welcome to the Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) Calculator, your go-to tool for assessing overall blood pressure health with precision.
By simply inputting your systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings, our calculator provides a quick and accurate MAP estimation.
Ensure your arterial pressure is conducive to good organ perfusion and take a step towards better cardiovascular health today.
What Is Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP)?
Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) is a significant measure of blood pressure that represents the average pressure in an individual’s arteries during one cardiac cycle.
It is considered a better indicator of perfusion to vital organs than systolic blood pressure (SBP) alone.
The MAP is crucial because it accounts for the fact that two-thirds of the cardiac cycle is spent in diastole (heart relaxation) and one-third in systole (heart contraction).
How To Calculate MAP?
To calculate MAP, one commonly used formula is:
MAP = Diastolic BP + 1/3 (Systolic BP − Diastolic BP)
This formula is derived from the fact that the heart spends approximately twice as long in diastole as systole.
An alternative formula, which takes heart rate into account and is used in more precise calculations, especially at higher heart rates, is:
MAP = Diastolic BP + 1/3 Pulse Pressure
… where Pulse Pressure (PP) is the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
A normal MAP ranges from about 70 to 105 mmHg. Values below 60 mmHg are often considered inadequate to sustain the normal function of vital organs, such as the heart, brain, and kidneys.
